On a long enough timeline... 🪷
A few of my thoughts on religious extremism, the death of America, and how it all ties into the Saga I've been writing for the past decade and a half.
I should be doing my taxes now, but I can’t. My mind is overflowing. Despite my best efforts to control the non-stop conflict waging a war on my senses day in and day out. What world would we be living in if Kamala had won? A better one for sure, but her loss - no our loss exposed the festering sore of hate, anger, greed, and craving lurking beneath the surface. As I see the news reports of another human being treated with contempt, hate, and de-humanized by ICE I am more appalled by those on the right celebrating this atrocious descent into a police state. Their hate seems to know no bounds. Transgender and queer people dehumanized, ostracized, diminished, and targeted. More celebration - and more sadness that this is the country that I fought for and nearly died for. Many of my brothers died overseas fighting religious extremists and now we have another form of religious extremists in every branch of our government - christofascists. And once again I’m appalled at the celebration, the Trump signs, the American flags popping up like rats in a sewer all over our neighborhoods, and the nazi salutes. How can so many be so blinded by hate? By greed? By anger? Don’t they see yet what is happening? What they have done?
Through it all I try and remind myself that on a long enough timeline all of our chances of survival drops to zero. As long as men die there will be freedom. One day this will be a few pages in a history book about how America lost its way and began to define its place in the world with the measuring stick of hate, intolerance, racism, and greed. While I cannot begin to see how this will all resolve itself I do fear that the astounding level of hate, anger, and greed so readily prevalent in our country right now will only result in untold suffering, pain, and death.
I started writing Wormwood Saga fifteen years ago. In many ways the saga taking shape in my mind then was a foreboding of an evil hellbent on destruction similar to what we are seeing today. An evil that could be destroyed only one way - through love.
I just published Chapter 24 - the most risque scene yet in the novel. After receiving a lot of great feedback from my writer’s group I felt that it was polished enough to be ready to share. Chapter 23 was one of the most fun to write out of the entire Saga.
Now the saga is pushing on, going deeper into the story, and with some fun twists and revelations things are starting to heat up. In a few chapters Book One will be wrapped and then I’ll start publishing Book Two of the Saga. So join in and let me know what you think about the first book - Aiōn - so far.
